5 Minute Art Breaks Week 5

Gratitude Marks (Journaling)

Well, it's week 5 and the first week of March! For the final entry in the 5 minute Art Break series I will be discussing gratitude!

I started a journal about 6 months ago. I write in it most days.  It’s a great place to put down ideas or sketch a bit.  When I am feeling down I write down everything I am grateful for that comes to mind.  From large things like our house, to smaller things like my daily mocha! I find that there is always something to be grateful for.

What You’ll Need: A journal, colored pencils, or watercolor paints.

How to Do It:

  • Think of three things you’re grateful for today.

  • Represent each one with a color, shape, or abstract mark on the page.

  • No need for words—just let the gratitude flow onto the paper.

Why It Works: This simple practice combines creativity with mindfulness, shifting your focus to appreciation and joy.

Final Thoughts: Make It a Habit

The key to integrating creativity into your busy life is to make it accessible and easy. Try setting aside five minutes before bed, during a coffee break, or first thing in the morning to play with color, movement, and expression.

You don’t need to create a masterpiece—you just need to start. Let go, have fun, and watch how these tiny moments of creativity bring more peace, creativity, and joy into your life.
